Praying for the Victims in Oregon!!

Another tragedy has striked our nation! Another mass shooting has taken place. This time the shooter asked each of his victims before he shot them if they were christian, if they answers yes, he shot them in cold blood!

There were no security guards on campus with guns to protect, and there was only ONE security guard on the whole campus and he only had mas. I truly believe our schools need to be protected, I truly think we need to make learning environments safe for all to learn and that everyone should know that they are safe when they enter a school of any kind. These shootings take away this sense of security and calmness. You can not learn if you are always watching over your shoulder or afraid.

Pray for the victims, pray for their families and pray for the ones who are recovering. I refuse to mention the name of the shooter, that is giving him glory and that is something I will not do. These school shoots must stop. We need to arm our schools better...

The Blaze has a detailed article about this tragic event and the 9 lives that were lost.

Traveling By Plane

Even though it is rougher than ever to travel by plane (longer lines, more crowded planes, more canceled flights, etc.) There are even more things to think about and worry about when traveling by plane. If you travel for business or with your family, this is an article you need to read! When you think about it these items and how often they are cleaned (or not cleaned), it makes me want to wear a mask and surgical gloves anytime I am near a plane! What are your thoughts?

The SuperMoon Lunar Eclipse

If you are anything like me, science has also been something that has interquied me, and not just pieces of it, but all of it. The why's, how's who's, and even the I don't know's and why don't we know's caught my attention.

Tomorrow night (September 27, 2015, my nieces birthday I have to add :) is a rare lunar eclipse AND super moon and the SAME time.... Pretty sweet, huh??? So even though it is not a school day, I found an awesome video and article #NASA put together explaining each of these by themselves and them together and when the next one is scheduled to take place (hint, not for a few decades!). This is also a great video to show your kids and your students (even if you do not teach science). Especially with the push of STEM, why not show some interesting once (okay maybe twice in their life time events)....

Here is the link to the article explaining and breaking down what they are and when you can see them:

If you want to watch this happen live around the world, here is the link that NASA will be using for that:

Enjoy! and if you see it, please take pictures and share... I am planning on watching the entire thing, however they are now saying it may be to cloudy where I live... Do I hear road trip??? :)

Choices of Education in the USA

With the start of the school year right around the corner, parents are thinking about school choices. If school has already started in your state, you may be analyzing your current school and asking if this is the best fit for your kids or the best fit for you as a teacher. There are a few articles out about home-school, virtual schools and public schools.

Virtual Schools

In the article "Parents Bust the Top 5 Virtual School Myths"  parents and teachers talk about the pros of virtual schools. Many parents love the flexibility that their students have in an online environment. Parents are also more involved in their students education as their learning coach.

"10 Myths About Online High Schools"  Talk about online courses for high schools. This is a great way for students to catch up on credits they may have not earned, or get a head in other courses. Full time high schools are also an option and are accredited for college.

"Myths About Online Schools" by K-12 and Alaska Virtual Academy. This is not my favorite article because it does feel a little like they are selling their school, however I do believe in what they are saying about why online schools work and are important.

Home Schooling

Homeschooling has been a hot topic for many years at the state and federal level, and even more attention lately with more and more public schools failing. Another reason families decide to home school is because of religious beliefs. Some families do not have access to private schools or can not afford to send their students to one. The following articles give the other side of home schooling.

"5 Homeschooling Myths Busted" and another article "5 Homeschool Myths Busted"

"Homeschooling Myths-Busted!"

The wonderful thing about living in the USA is that you have many choices. Private, parochial, home school, public, online and others begin to bloom. No one knows where the future of education is heading and how much it will change over the next 5-10 years. Just look where we have came from over the past decade.
